Have You Been Called?

Oct 02, 2024
Connect

Have you ever considered who gave you permission to call yourself an artist? Do you even call yourself an artist?

Who are you, really?

If everything you had was taken away, if you were alone and stripped bare in a desert, who would you be?

Would you still be you?

Would I still be a parent? An artist? Would my skin color be the same? My gender? Human? Worthy of love?

Here’s what I know for sure about myself.

→ I was created and I am loved.
→ I am human, born of a woman.
→I am a mother - this is unchangeable even if my kids were gone.
→I am a daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend.
→I am Caucasian, of European descent.

Everything else about me can be molded, can evolve or completely change based on my perceptions and choices.

You might not like some of these truths, but they are a part of who you are.

There’s one more thing you’ve given and that’s my focus for this message.

You were given a communication tool-how you bring hope to the world. It’s not just talking; it’s your unique mode of expression. We were made for relationships, and just like our gender, part of our makeup includes a special way to connect with others and the world.

What is yours?

For me, it’s the visual arts.  It was evident to me from my earliest memories.

Others communicate through music or dance or public speaking or writing or many other ways.

Some are fortunate to have early support in discovering this tool. For others, it was stifled and made unimportant.

But here’s what I want you to know: this communication tool is part of you, just like your gender or birthplace. You can’t change it, only embrace or deny it.

Here’s the fun part: think about what happens when you radically accept these aspects of yourself?

When you embrace and run with great and mighty things will happen. Good things.

Imagine if great communicators like Whitney Houston and Shakespere had denied their gifts? The world would be different.

This week is a great time to ponder your core being, the way you were knit together and the innate qualities that define you.

Focus on your gift of communication—have you ignored it, feared it, or been unsure of its purpose?

Or do you know exactly what you’ve been made for and feel ready for the next step?

Stay Bold,

Charla

The Uncomfortable Question of Losing my Creative Gift.
How  passion for creativity quietly became an idol.   Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. A...
Nudity and The Artist
Nudity and the artist have a long entangled history. And attempting to unravel this discussion in one newsletter is a tall task.  As an art school founder I get asked a lot by christian artists in our community, 'Is it ok to paint nudes? Should I be painting nudes?"  Why Paint Nudes? A. Some will say that nudes are a great way to study anatomy. B. Others will say that the nude body is beautifu...
When Creativity Becomes Distraction: Make Haste!
LUKE 2:8-20 The Angels Announce Jesus to the Shepherds8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy...
