What Do Carry?
It’s storytime. Do you like stories? I do. They are so helpful in getting ideas across.
These aren’t my stories, but you may have heard them.
They are about people in unchangeable circumstances who used what they had been given to do mighty things.
And if you’re wondering where I’m going with this, remember that you’re an artist with skills and tools at your disposal. At the very least, you have hands to make things with. As you read these stories, put yourself in their shoes.
STORY ONE 🐍
The first is about a man who had to be hidden at birth because the leader of his country wanted him dead. Miraculously, and not without drama, he survived and he grew up. This story took place a long time ago in days where everyone kept animals and so, as an adult, this man carried a staff.
This is where the miracle came in. This man, named Moses, really didn’t think his circumstances were special. But the creator of the universe had plans for him.
When Moses doubted his own abilities, God told him to use the rod in his hand. He could use what he already had. And so Moses did. As you read the rest of the story the only thing Moses had to actually do was answer the call.
With that staff in his hand, Moses led over two million slaves to freedom.
STORY TWO 🐟
There’s another story, a little more modern than Moses, about a large group of people gathered at a conference. The event went a bit long, no one wanted to leave and there was no thought of food - until someone got hungry.
Fortunately, the main speaker was Jesus. And He was known for miracles. Only one person brought food. At least only one was willing to share -he brought what he already had. His small portion became enough to feed everyone. The power of heaven multiplied what one person offered. The only thing that person had to was answer the call.
Ok, so that story wasn’t exactly modern. I have one more that happened recently.
STORY THREE 👐
This one is about a woman, born a slave. Her name was Harriet Tubman. She escaped slavery but did not stay away. She returned and helped to set many more slaves free. She was a black woman, born a slave. Some would say she had nothing to offer. But she did. She had herself and her willingness to was answer the call.
Make a list.
What do you have.
Do you have a rod, some food or just two hands and two feet?
Stay Bold,

PSS. When I first heard the story of Harriet Tubman I was compelled to paint her portrait. She was not superhuman. But she did what seemed to be supernatural things.
